Introduction to the project

This project has been developed by Volunteering England (VE), the national development agency for volunteering and the accountable body for the new ChangeUp Volunteering Hub. It outlines an integrated programme of work to address issues to do with risk and insurance in the volunteering sector, building on work already undertaken by (amongst others) the Insurance Cover Working Group (ICWG), the Better Regulation Task Force (BRTF), and the Active Communities Directorate (ACD).

The project consists of a 12 month programme of work, commencing in May 2005 and concluding in May 2006, and encompassing a range of different but connected activities including a mapping exercise, on-going dialogue with the insurance sector, and good practice development and dissemination within the volunteering and insurance sectors.

Volunteering England is taking the lead on the programme of work in partnership with a range of interested stakeholders, including volunteer-involving agencies, the insurance sector, the judiciary and government. Through its extensive, broad-based membership and consultative mechanisms, Volunteering England is well placed to ensure that the programme of work reaches all parts of the volunteering movement and, in the shape of the England Volunteering Development Council, it has a high-level, strategic body, to help guide the work.
