Commissioned by the Home Office ACD, consultants Zahno Rao Associates have generated a clearly focused strategy paper on mainstreaming diversity. This identifies actions to turn the general commitment to diversity within ChangeUp into tangible results.

The strategy will ensure that groups such as Rural, BME and Faith organisations, which have not historically had equal access to support and representation, continue to benefit from the implementation of ChangeUp.

Diversity HandsThe Government is committed to mainstreaming diversity within the ChangeUp programme to ensure that groups that historically may not have had equal access to support and representation now benefit from the implementation of ChangeUp.

In October 2005, the Active Communities Directorate (ACD) of the Home Office commissioned a Strategy Paper to inform it on how to turn this general commitment to diversity into tangible results.  In particular, the ACD recognises that rural, Black and minority ethnic (BME), refugee and faith organisations have lacked equal access to support and development services including ‘mainstream’ or generalist infrastructure.  This Strategy Paper is intended to focus on ways to help ChangeUp fund managers, planners and project deliverers to take action that makes a difference to these groups.

The main objective of the Strategy Paper is to turn the general commitment to diversity within ChangeUp into tangible results by informing the work of Capacitybuilders to enable it to achieve its objective of mainstreaming diversity.  The Strategy Paper is also intended to set out broad principles for mainstreaming diversity in all ACD’s programmes.
